All in all, Digital Domain has completed almost 1,000 VFX shots, including 660 shots of the series heroine She-Hulk alone.</p>
<p><strong>In toto:</strong> For the series season, VFX supervisor <strong><a href="https://digitaldomain.com/leadership/jan-philip-cramer/">Jan Philip Cramer</a> and </strong>his team brought the human-sized actress Tatiana Maslany down to Hulk size. Transferring the actress’s nuanced facial expressions into Hulk dimensions was a particular challenge. For the series, Digital Domain developed in-house tools, including the so-called ShapeWear system, with the help of which garments are adapted to the gigantomaniac proportions of the series’ eponymous heroine. Apart from this, other proprietary Digital Domain tools were used, such as Masquera 2.0 or Charlatan.</p>

The Force is with Image Engine, as the VFX house has already created visual effects for the series The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Thanks to this previous experience, visual effects supervisor Andy Walker and his team were able to deliver eye-catching effects for this latest Star Wars series.</p>
<p><strong>In toto:</strong> Along with the VFX breakdown, a report has been published on awn.com detailing the story behind the 360 or so VFX shots that Image Engine created for Obi-Wan Kenobi – from giant CG environments of the mining world of Mapuzo, set extensions, vehicle tyre removal, laser swords cutting through cargo doors, Imperial henchman laser cannons, to Star Wars-style lightsaber duels. According to Andy Walker, for example, Houdini was used to create the flora of the desert landscape.</p>

Giger’s Alien? The Predator, of course (also known as Yautja in the jargon). MPC has now released a VFX breakdown of the latest cinematic spin-off from the Predator universe, Prey. In the VFX breakdown, the extraterrestrial trophy hunter is joined by other predators: Wolf, bear, cat – and the battle-hardened protagonist who takes on the visitor from outer space.</p>

<p><strong>In toto:</strong> Prey marks the first Predator flick to be produced since the Walt Disney Company took over brand owner 20th Century Fox in March 2019. The film was directed by suspense-tested director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane). The last attempt by 20th Century Fox to bring the predatory alien back to the big screen with The Predator (German title: Predator – Upgrade) by cult director Shane Black (The Nice Guys; Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang; Last Action Hero) fell short of expectations both fiscally and from a critical perspective. Prey, on the other hand, the fifth cinematic incarnation of the Predator IP, was very favourably received by the majority of viewers, but was released exclusively on the streaming service provider Disney-Plus. A Predator hunt on the big screen was therefore unfortunately cancelled. The special feature of Prey: the film is set in the year 1712 and the heroine is the Comanche Nanu. Comanches are an indigenous people of the North American Indians.</p>

<p><strong>ILM meets Marvel:</strong> Industrial Lights & Magic is no stranger to the Marvel film studio, where latex-wearing superheroes and steel-carbon armour-wearing world saviours face existentialist primal fears. No, because ILM has already worked on the Marvel gems “The Avengers”, “Captain America”, “Doctor Strange”, “Black Panther”, “Eternals” and “Black Widow”!</p>
<p><strong>What is “Loki”?</strong> It is a streaming series on Disney Plus centred around the trickster Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. Within the Marvel chronology, “Loki” is set after the events of the film “Avengers: Endgame”.</p>

<p><strong>What does Enbiggen’s video show?</strong> The almost ten-minute video shows the flying house from the film “Upstairs”, but this time it is made of Lego bricks. On its ascent, the house triggers several Lego cogwheels, which then touch sound bars, which in turn play the music track “Married Life” by Michael Giacchino from the well-known animated film. The flight of the Lego house is peppered with insiders, allusions and references to the animated feature film from 2009.</p>
<p><strong>How did the project come about?</strong> According to Embiggens, the project was created entirely digitally using Cinema 4D and Octane Render.</p>

The hit series The Mandalorian scooped five Emmy trophies in the VFX category. In the VFX breakdown from DNEG Studios, numerous contributors have their say: Animation Supervisor Aaron Gilman, Animation Leads Arna Diego and Leonardo Bonisolli, Creature Supervisor Adam Vanner, Build Lead Lucas Cuenca and Creature Lead Mischa Kolbe talk about the three-minute film.</p>
<p>The facial performances of the four-legged friends posed a particular challenge for the team. Creating a believable movement sequence for the eleven sled dogs while an ice floe collapses under their paws was another challenge for the DNEG artists. Find out more in the video below:</p>
