<p><strong>In nuce:</strong> VFX service provider Sony Pictures Imageworks has released a VFX breakdown for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (street name: Doctor Strange 2) – packed to bursting with set extensions, explosions and collapsing buildings.</p>
<p><strong>In toto:</strong> For the second cinema appearance of the <span style="font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Verdana',sans-serif; color: #222222; background: white;">Sorcerer Supreme, Earth’s supreme protector against magical and mystical threats</span> (aka Stephen Strange), Marvel hired cult director Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Drag me to Hell) – resulting in scenes with an undead Doctor Strange that look like Bruce Campbell stumbling through an Evil Dead film. Incidentally, Campbell, the crown jewel of the Sam Raimi cast, makes a guest appearance in the second Doctor Strange film – as a choleric hot dog vendor. With the Spider-Man film from 2002 and its sequels, Raimi and the VFX artists laid the foundations for the contemporary comic film.</p>

All in all, Digital Domain has completed almost 1,000 VFX shots, including 660 shots of the series heroine She-Hulk alone.</p>
<p><strong>In toto:</strong> For the series season, VFX supervisor <strong><a href="https://digitaldomain.com/leadership/jan-philip-cramer/">Jan Philip Cramer</a> and </strong>his team brought the human-sized actress Tatiana Maslany down to Hulk size. Transferring the actress’s nuanced facial expressions into Hulk dimensions was a particular challenge. For the series, Digital Domain developed in-house tools, including the so-called ShapeWear system, with the help of which garments are adapted to the gigantomaniac proportions of the series’ eponymous heroine. Apart from this, other proprietary Digital Domain tools were used, such as Masquera 2.0 or Charlatan.</p>

<p><strong>In nuce:</strong> VFX service provider Rodeo FX has released an almost five-minute episode from its “Breaking Down the Breakdown” series. The video, entitled “The Bamboo Scaffold Building & The Fight with Death Dealer”, is about the Marvel superhero film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”; in particular, it explains how the action scene on the bamboo scaffold was created and the fight with the Death Dealer. VFX supervisor Ara Khanikian guides us through the video.</p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.rodeofx.com/team/ara-khanikian">Ara Khanikian </a></strong>has been working for Rodeo FX as a VFX supervisor for over 14 years and is also a board member of the Visual Effects Society. In addition to Shang-Chi, his current credits as a contributor include the new Lord of the Rings streaming series The Rings of Power, the Dwayne John Disney film Jungle Cruise and the series Better Call Saul, The Boys and Game of Thrones.</p>
