The library now includes <strong>over 60 HDRIs</strong> available at <strong>8K resolution</strong></a>, all of which can be used in commercial projects. Each HDRI comes as a <strong>32-bit .exr</strong>, and there’s now the option to download them in <strong>tone-mapped 16-bit TIFF format</strong> and as new <strong>greyscale versions</strong> designed for <strong>moodier lighting scenarios</strong>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" src="https://public-files.gumroad.com/5dnapsetr714d5729ct1o2dqmgip" alt="https://public-files.gumroad.com/5dnapsetr714d5729ct1o2dqmgip" ></figure>

<h4 id="greyscale-and-tone-mapped-formats-now-included" class="wp-block-heading">Greyscale and tone-mapped formats now included</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The collection, originally launched with only 32-bit HDRIs, has now been updated to support <strong>two new formats</strong>. First, the new <strong>tone-mapped 16-bit TIFFs</strong> offer easier previewing in standard image viewers, without the need for linear workflow tools. Second, the <strong>greyscale versions</strong> are stripped of color information, which can help <strong>avoid unwanted colour tints</strong> in stylised or artistic lighting setups. Lachapelle mentions these are useful for “<strong>moodier</strong>” scenarios – and if your scene doesn’t scream “cheerful” by default, they’re worth trying.</p>

<h4 id="lighting-captured-by-a-vfx-artist-not-a-streetlamp" class="wp-block-heading">Lighting captured by a VFX artist, not a streetlamp</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unlike many HDRI libraries shot without consideration for VFX usage, Lachapelle’s maps are designed <strong>for CGI artists</strong> and compositors. Locations range from <strong>urban streets and industrial zones</strong> to <strong>forests and interiors</strong>. The lighting setups are neutral enough for relighting or stylisation, but rich enough for <strong>accurate reflections and GI</strong> (global illumination).</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" src="https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/67e2dae4044f904b8de37eb7/67e2e66db707f3d098c5b531_colorchecker.avif" alt="https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/67e2dae4044f904b8de37eb7/67e2e66db707f3d098c5b531_colorchecker.avif" ></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Each HDRI was captured and processed by Lachapelle himself. These aren’t randomly stitched panoramas – they’re field-tested maps intended for production environments, with correctly exposed dynamic range and good colour fidelity. Or in plain words: You won’t have to fix the sun in post.</p>

<h4 id="available-now-no-sign-up-needed" class="wp-block-heading">Available now, no sign-up needed</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can browse and download the full HDRI library directly at <a href="https://www.simonlachapelle.com/hdri">simonlachapelle.com/hdri</a>. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="559" height="558" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" src="https://i0.wp.com/digitalproduction.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/image-7.jpg?resize=559%2C558&quality=80&ssl=1" alt="A pricing table displaying four tiers of subscription plans: Free Version ($0), Personal Plan ($50), Small Studio ($125 for 2-5 seats), and Big Studio ($200 for over 5 seats)." class="wp-image-185370" ><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">#image_title</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"></p>

<h4 id="usability-first-but-always-check-before-deployment" class="wp-block-heading">Usability first – but always check before deployment</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While the HDRIs are aimed at production workflows and have been field-tested, any lighting setup should be tested in context before being used in final renders. The new tone-mapped and greyscale formats are useful, but not necessarily universal solutions – test first, composite later.</p>
