The headline features: two selection tools, less fiddling

Sketchbook Pro version 9.4 adds two tools built around selections: Lasso Fill and Draw Outline. Lasso Fill dynamically fills regions you define with the lasso and targets fast shape blocking for coloring workflows. It lives in the Fill sub-toolbar and can also work with Randomize Color. It can also run with Transparent Color as a clean-up move when you need to nibble back into an edge.

Draw Outline uses the current selection as a path to apply a stroke using the active brush and active color. The stroke centers on the selection line, and the tool sits in the Selection toolbar. It can push beyond plain outlines, including border and halo effects, glow-style results with softer brushes, and softer edge work with eraser-style strokes.

If your day job involves concept art paintovers and quick iterations, both tools aim straight at the boring bits: blocking, edging, and making a selection do something immediately useful.

Desktop release notes: flips, palettes, and Randomize Color behaving

Version 9.4 on macOS adds Layer Menu actions for Rotate CW, Flip Horizontally, and Flip Vertically. The Windows edition lists the same Layer Menu additions, along with the two new selection tools. Across both desktop platforms, color palettes now indicate the active swatch. The Fill tool, including solid fill and lasso fill, now works with Randomize Color instead of ignoring it. Draw Styles also work with Randomize Color.

Mobile builds: same core tools, Premium gate

On mobile, the new tools arrive in the Premium Bundle, not the free base app. On Android, version 6.2.5 lists Draw Outline and Lasso Fill as new Premium Bundle features. It also adds Copy, Cut, and Paste to the selection sub-toolbar, adds palette reordering in the Color Editor, and makes color palettes indicate the active swatch. The Fill tool now works with Randomize Color.

On iOS, version 6.2.6 lists the same two Premium Bundle additions and also adds palette reordering in the Color Editor plus active-swatch indication in palettes. iOS also notes fixes for brush information not populating in the double puck in 6.2.5, an export behavior where an Open button appeared during export of a TIFF file from the gallery, Glow blend mode alpha behavior, artifacts under groups with blend modes, and a canvas edit crop limit issue on very large dimensions. The Fill tool on iOS now works with Randomize Color as well.

The Premium Bundle itself is a one-time in-app purchase on iOS and Android. It unlocks more brush, color, and layer management features, including Lasso Fill, Draw Outline, layer grouping, clipping masks and alpha masks, adjustment effects, and multi-page PDF export. If you live in storyboard land, the selection-driven approach maps cleanly to the way boards get cleaned up: lasso, block, outline, move on. The main catch is that on mobile, you need Premium for the new toys.

As always, test new releases on real jobs, with real brushes, and with your worst legacy files before you bet a deadline on them. Your future self will thank you, or at least complain less loudly.

A free mobile game called RGB has been released on Android, quietly challenging anyone who claims they can judge colour by eye. The premise is minimal. Players are shown a target colour and must recreate it using three sliders controlling red, green and blue values before the timer expires.

RGB can generate up to 15,625,000 possible colour combinations. The number is mathematically correct for 8-bit RGB and explains why the game escalates from calm to unpleasant very quickly. RGB does not include narrative elements, progression systems, or assistive tools.

There are no scopes, no numeric readouts visible during play, and no undo. The task is entirely visual. Accuracy and speed are the only metrics that matter, which makes the experience uncomfortably familiar for colourists, compositors, and anyone who has ever trusted their eyes more than a waveform.

Developer FiredUpForge describes RGB as one of its most original projects. The studio has mentioned possible future updates including a colour-blindness mode and an HSL colour model option.

RGB is available for free on Android via Google Play. No iOS version has been announced. No pricing tiers or in-app purchases are listed on the store page at the time of writing.

While RGB is not a production tool and makes no such claim, it functions as an unintentional reminder that colour perception without instruments is unreliable, inconsistent, and deeply humbling. For those who don’t know the tool: LumaFusion by LumaTouch is a professional non-linear video editor for mobile devices. It sits between consumer apps and desktop suites like Premiere or DaVinci Resolve, offering editing on phones and tablets.

Android version grows up

LumaTouch has released a major update to LumaFusion for Android, version 2.5. The company states that the Android edition now mirrors most of the editing power of its iOS counterpart. The update focuses on workflow speed, transition control, and codec flexibility for professional postproduction on mobile hardware.

Faster transitions with fewer taps

The new Head and Tail Transitions function automatically adds a cross-dissolve to both the start and end of any selected clip. This eliminates multiple manual steps for editors who rely on simple fades or dissolve patterns to soften cuts. A second option allows applying multiple transitions at once. Users can select several clips in the timeline, double-tap any transition in the Transitions Library, and the effect is instantly applied to all selected clips. This behaviour mirrors the quick-apply gestures familiar to desktop editing software.

Finding source media now works both ways

LumaFusion 2.5 introduces two linked search commands: Find Selected Clip in Library and Find Selected Clip in Timeline. Selecting a clip in the timeline and invoking the first command highlights the original file in the media library. In reverse, choosing a clip in the library and selecting the second command reveals all its instances on the timeline. The feature simplifies management of reused media in multi-sequence edits.

Interface flexibility

Users can now choose the layout of the Effects Editor. Controls and presets can appear on either side of the display, depending on personal workflow or screen orientation. LumaTouch says this update improves ergonomics on large tablets and ultrawide Android devices.

APV codec support

LumaFusion for Android now supports exporting projects in Samsung’s Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec. APV is a perceptually lossless intra-frame codec designed for mobile devices, offering high-quality compression for 4K and 8K video. LumaTouch notes that APV files consume around 20 per cent less storage than comparable formats while maintaining 10- to 16-bit depth and HDR support. The codec’s intra-frame structure also simplifies frame-accurate editing and colour correction.

Near parity with iOS version

LumaTouch developers describe this release as a milestone toward feature parity between Android and iOS versions. Given the platform differences in file system access and media handling, achieving functional equivalence has been technically complex. The company has not yet announced any timeline for full parity, but the Android version now includes nearly all editing, trimming, and transition options available on iOS.

Blackmagic Camera for Android 1.3 introduces significant upgrades for Artists working on multi-cam projects. This includes timecode support, which simplifies syncing footage in post-production, and anamorphic lens de-squeeze functionality.
