Is it safe to come out yet?
So, welcome to 2026. Hope you had a good break, which was surely well earned. We did some loafing and backend-work ourselves, which you’ll see soon. (Testing and asking “Seriously? You’re shipping this?” takes longer over the holidays.) But we’re back at it, and when you’re already bored of your freshly polished workstation, here’s something to make your storage, GPU, and CPU sweat again. A Sapphire course, real volumetric fog in Nuke (yes, you read that correctly), and more.

That's it, except....
This time, we got something very different. I recently had a conversation with Julien Klein, whom many of you will know from the Beyond Normal story.
And when I say long, I mean there is a video of the conversation and it runs for almost three hours. (Also as an audio podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, because my face is not a selling point). Julien is currently editing it into more digestible pieces and will publish those on his site, but if you are in the mood for a bucket of inadvisable opinions from yours truly, the complete version is available. It is three hours of two people pretending this will be a short conversation, then immediately failing.
We talk about how to make yourself an easy VFX/Post-hire, and why consistency beats algorithms every time, even when the algorithm promises it loves you back. We get into how to treat AI in writing, how to write without turning it into a sacred ceremony, how to beat imposter syndrome, and a pile of tips from someone who has been watching this industry from the sidelines for 15 years and taking notes.
Along the way there are questionable jokes, surprisingly practical career advice, a genuinely useful method to stop doomscrolling and how to regain control of your attention, hidden under a layer of sarcasm and old-media grumpiness. As always with something of that length, nobody is angry if you do not watch all of it. Nobody is angry. Just oh-so-slightly dissapointed. Just kidding. Greetings, Bela and the Floof
