Developer Shuimeng has released Outliner Preview, a free add-on for Blender that displays a real-time 360° preview of models directly in the Outliner panel when you hover over them with the mouse. This works without clicking, giving artists a quick visual check of items in large scenes. The add-on is available on the official Blender Extensions site and supports Blender 4.2 and later. It can preview both individual objects and entire collections in the Outliner.

Instant visual feedback

Outliner Preview renders a compact 360° thumbnail of the selected asset within the Outliner. This helps users find models without switching to the 3D viewport or enabling other display modes. The most recent update adds preview support for linked instances, enhanced UI behaviour, general stability fixes, and performance improvements.

For artists managing extensive Blender scenes with many objects and nested collections, identifying items purely by name can slow down workflows.
