At ‘ISPCON Spring 2001’, this year’s spring trade fair for Internet Service Provider (ISP) activities and markets, SGI presented a comprehensive range of cost-effective ‘Media Commerce’ solutions for Internet serving based on the Linux operating system. These include an affordable platform specifically for e-commerce services, powerful dedicated solutions for messaging and media streaming, as well as enabling technologies and solutions such as SGI Internet Server Environment (ISE) and SGI Internet Server.

SGI Internet Server for E-Commerce

is a powerful solution based on an ultra-flat (1U high) server, fully configured with the e-commerce software SoftCart from Mercantec. Up to 150 storefronts can be operated per server.

The e-commerce version of the SGI Internet Server, specially tailored to service providers, is a fully integrated and fully equipped Linux-based solution that offers providers of shop hosting services an attractive entry point: The solution is available from prices starting at DM 10,745.

SGI Internet Server for Messaging

is a powerful, complete thin server solution with MessagingDirect’s commercial-grade messaging software that manages up to 15,000 mailboxes. Prices start at DM 30,956, resulting in an investment of practically DM 2 per mailbox. Designed for small to medium sized ISPs, the messaging variant of the SGI Internet Server is an affordable, fully integrated and fully configured Linux-based solution that allows the provider of single or multiple hosted messaging services to easily go live.

Kasenna MediaBase for Linux servers from SGI

is currently the only ‘carrier-class broadband’ software platform that allows large users such as telecoms companies, media houses, network operators and large corporations to manage, distribute and stream multimedia content via the Internet, intranets and VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) to a variety of different client platforms – operating at bit rates from 28.8 Kb/s up to 15 Mb/s. The Linux-based SGI Internet Server with Kasenna MediaBase supports a variety of streaming formats simultaneously, including RealVideo, RealAudio, QuickTime, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MP3.

SGI Internet Server Environment (ISE)

This customised environment for service providers includes advanced management, monitoring and security tools with powerful embedded installation scripts and a web-based user interface – all available on a single CD. ISE provides a basic Internet infrastructure as a foundation to support messaging, web serving and e-commerce applications as required by service providers.
