Following the announcement of the S35mm camcorder in November, Sony held back on exact data – but now the key specifications of the new cameras are available.
The NEX-FS100E records with the Exmor S35 CMOS sensor and, according to Sony, is particularly suited to filming commercials and music videos, as well as action scenes in low-budget productions.With the S35 image sensor, the NEX-FS100 can record images with shallow depth of field, and the image sensor does not give out even at a minimum brightness of 0.28 lux.
The NEX-FS100E also incorporates Sony’s E-mount interchangeable-lens system. With the LA-EA1 adapter, A-mount lenses from Sony’s Alpha series can therefore be used, as well as lenses from other manufacturers.
The NEX-FS100E works with Memory Stick PRO Duoor SDHC media and is supplied as a lens-kit model (NEX-FS100EK), equipped with an E18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS zoom lens. The NEX-FS100E and EK versions are expected to be available between July and September 2011, complementing Sony’s 35mm portfolio around the F35, SRW-9000PL and PMW-F3.

Also new to the range is the first dust- and rain-protected HD cam. The HXR-NX70E was tested for dust and rain resistance in accordance with protection class IEC60529 IP54, records with the Exmor R CMOS sensor and is intended to produce FIlm-like images using CinemaTone technology and a wide-angle G lens. It also includes SteadyShot image-stabilisation technology and an integrated GPS receiver. The Sony HXR-NX70E is expected to come to market in June 2011.
