Render Crate publishes asset collection for medieval fans

Helm’s Deep and Casterly Stone are too puny for you? Then use this collection of assets to build imposing castles that will make King Théoden green with envy.

In nuce: A collection of 3D models with which you can build medieval castles has been published on the Render Crate platform (originally: “Medieval Castle Kit”). The stylish collection is available to download free of charge. In any case, the self-imposed bar is high: according to the description, the included assets should be able to compete with the imposing castle buildings from The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.

What is included in the Medieval Castle Kit? Downloading the collection gives you access to walls, towers and gates that will get medieval fans’ pulses racing. According to the description, the assets are photorealistic and boast an 8K texture resolution. The assets are also rich in variety. For example, you can choose between bricks that are light or dark in colour, bricks that are old and therefore show signs of wear, or bricks that are brand new from the manufacturer.

Which file formats are used? The 3D models are supplied in USDZ and FBX format. This means that the Medieval Castle Kit is compatible with common DCC tools such as Blender, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max or Houdini.

Who is the Medieval Castle Kit aimed at? In the download description, the authors admit that building medieval castles (including those on virtual ground) involves a lot of clickety-clicky work: adding traces of use to cobblestones, lining up roof tiles, keeping track of the construction with wooden beams – many hours of work can be required to build a structure that makes the virtual builder proud. The Medieval Castle Kit shortens this path to a successful castle.
