In nuce: All Maxon products from the “Maxon One” value subscription package are now receiving numerous updates – this includes: Cinema 4D, Redshift, Red Giant, Universe, Forger and also ZBrush. This is according to a recent press release published as part of “Maxon’s Spring 2022 Launch Event”.
Spring updates: Maxon has some improvements and new functions in store for spring. The large-scale, generalised update covers several of Maxon’s software offerings at the same time and is intended to position Maxon One even more attractively for users.
The spring updates in detail: Let’s take a quick look at the new features that Maxon announced in its press release.
New features for Redshift: CPU rendering has been added to the renderer. Until now, the Redshift renderer has mainly been recognised as a powerful GPU renderer. According to the press release, the new CPU rendering should make photorealistic rendering possible across all systems – including for Houdini, Maya, 3ds max, Blender, Katana, Vectorworks and Archicad.
Maxon is also promoting a new standard material for Redshift. The new standard material should allow users to define surfaces more easily and exchange material definitions.
Redshift also includes the new standard material. This includes: New, so-called “Multiscattering Energy Conservation”, the so-called “D’Eon Lambert Sphere diffuse roughness model”, but also a thin patina for iridescent materials (in the original: “thin film for iridescent materials”), and last but not least improved volumetric motion blur.

New features for Cinema 4D: Now includes CPU rendering for Redshift, as mentioned above. Users can also expect the procedural-automatic retopology via ZRemesher. Beyond this, the release of Cinema 4D S26 introduces many modelling tools, both procedural and interactive, which promise improvements, especially in terms of clothing and rope simulation (in the original: “New cloth and rope simulation system”).

New features for Red Giant: The tool now comes with new lens flare effects for the “VFX Suite 3”. Simulated optical models and ray tracing exposure serve as the basis for this. But that’s not all: according to the press release, “Magic Bullet Looks” for the “Magic Bullet Suite 16” now includes new effects for halation and diffusion tools.
(Even more) innovations for Red Giant: “Trapcode Particular” now also supports layer maps. four new tools have also been added to “Universe”: Sketchify, Chromatown, Box Bokeh and Stretch. In addition, “Trapcode Suite 18” now also supports Apple M1 processor for all Trapcode tools.
New features, new features and more new features for Red Giant: “Universe 6″ expands its range of functions for Sketchify. This includes “ChromaTown”, with which users can create coloured stripes and blur effects. Square and diamond-shaped bokeh effects can be created with “Box Bokeh”. And with “Stretch Transition”, users can create crossfades between two clips. In total, Maxon has equipped “Universe 6” with over 70 new presets.
New features for Forger: Users can now also use the parametric primitives from Cinema 4D as a starting point for 3D sculpting and modelling. These parametric primitives relate to planes, cubes, spheres, cylinders, toruses, pyramids and capsules.
Why does ZBrush actually belong to Maxon? Since Maxon took over the competitor Pixologic, the sculpting tool ZBrush has also been part of Maxon’s software range – since December last year. We reported this to you on 16.12.2021.
Availability: Maxon One subscribers can already enjoy all the new features. For those who are undecided, the 14-day trial version, which already includes the full range of Maxon One functions, could be worthwhile.
