Foundry has confirmed it will cease development of its 3D modeling tool, Modo, with Modo 17.1 serving as the final release. The decision redirects resources to Foundry’s core products, but leaves Modo’s dedicated user base facing an uncertain future. With no further updates or patches planned, Modo may become increasingly incompatible with future operating systems, making it a short-term solution at best.
Current users will receive support until their contracts expire, and an optional 10-year license extension is available to prolong Modo’s use. However, Foundry urges users to begin migrating to other tools, as the software will no longer be patched for compatibility with new technology.
Modo’s community resources are also on the clock. Downloads, documentation, and learning materials will remain available only until November 2025, while forums will close by December 2024. For Modo artists, it’s time to prepare for a transition, as Modo’s end-of-life nears.
More details are available on Foundry’s Modo support page.
