Bela Beier

Bela Beier is the owner and one-man band behind Digital Production—and the company’s sole human employee. He joined the publication as an editor in July 2010, became Managing Editor in April 2014, and took over as Editor-in-Chief in February 2019. Having worked his way through the editorial hierarchy, he now also gets to be the hierarchy. His focus is digital imaging, VFX, 3D and postproduction: explaining what creative technology actually does once the launch presentation is over and somebody has to deliver something. The CEO is, obviously, the cat. Bela reports directly to management, usually when the food bowl is empty.

Before Digital Production, Bela worked in photography and technology journalism at PHOTOGRAPHIE and in T-Online’s computer editorial team. He studied online journalism at FH Darmstadt and wrote Social Media für Fotografen, bringing together technical reporting, publishing and the increasingly ambitious business of getting useful information in front of people. Today, editorial work, website maintenance, administration and the rest of Digital Production’s daily operations all arrive at the same desk. If an article, reply or website fix takes a little longer, that is why: the relevant departments are all Bela, and Bela is occasionally already doing something. The CEO has declined to help, citing an exceptionally demanding schedule of sleeping on the equipment.

On the desk: Keychron K5 Max · 3Dconnexion CadMouse Pro Wireless Left · beyerdynamic FOX microphone · EIZO CG3100X display flanked by two smaller LG office screens in a TIE-fighter configuration, because one screen would leave far too much desk visible · Android smartphone · No Apple devices. Somehow, the words still get written.
