For those who don’t know the tool: KeyShot turns CAD into photoreal renders fast, and this roadshow pairs it with DOSCH DESIGN 3D services for a practical workflow sanity check.

DOSCH DESIGN and KeyShot go on the road

If your pipeline includes the words “faster,” “cleaner,” and “less guesswork,” there is a free event series that may be worth a calendar slot. DOSCH DESIGN is on the road tour to two German cities in May, built around KeyShot and a very practical question: does this rendering setup actually fit the way your team works.

The format is straightforward. One afternoon. Plenty of time for live demos, direct Q&A, and some hands-on testing with specialists on site. The goal is not a stage show. The goal is to leave with a better feel for the tool, the workflow, and what it would take to use it inside a real production environment.

Two cities, one afternoon each

The tour dates are set.

On May 6, 2026, the 3D-Experience Day lands in Düsseldorf from 14:00 to 17:00 at Design Office Kaiserteich.

On May 12, 2026, the same program runs in Nürnberg from 14:00 to 17:00 at Design Office Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof.

Both events run in German, and participation is free. Registration happens through the contact form on the event page. Seats are limited by the simple laws of room size and physics, so registering early is the sensible kind of productivity.

Event page and registration: https://doschdesign.com/3d-experience-day.php

What the program actually covers

The schedule leans into the classic production pain points: getting from CAD to something that looks like a product, quickly enough that the iteration loop still feels like iteration and not archaeology.

One talk focuses on how KeyShot can shorten product development cycles and reduce costs. The useful part for artists and production folks will be the details around what changes in the handoff, the lighting and material setup, and where the time savings come from in a typical day.

Another segment is “New in KeyShot 2026”. If you are the person who maintains studio tooling or sets internal standards, this is the part where you listen for changes that affect import, material handling, output, and anything that touches review and approvals.

There is also a live demo that goes from CAD model to convincing rendering in minutes. Seeing the render chain in real time makes it easier to judge where the speed comes from, and where your own assets, naming conventions, and shading standards will either cooperate or fight back.

The agenda also includes DOSCH Key-Optimize and an overview of 3D services, plus time for Q&A and a networking slot. The networking part is not just small talk. The setup explicitly mentions the option to sit with laptops and run through individual questions, which is usually where the real workflow truth shows up.

Who should actually go

This afternoon is pitched at three groups: beginners, switchers, and the happily curious. That tracks well with how many studios and product teams are operating right now.

If you are new to photoreal, it can be hard to know what fast means until you see it. If you are switching tools or inheriting a pipeline, you want to measure the tool against your existing constraints, not against a perfect demo scene. If you are already experienced, the value is often in the small things: what imports cleanly, what breaks, what you need to standardize, and what you can leave flexible without getting burned.

Either way, the most productive mindset is to treat this as a fit test. Bring the right questions. Think about where assets come from, how you version work, and what your review loop expects. In other words, bring your workflow, not just your curiosity.

How to register

Participation is free, and registration happens through the contact form on the event page. The events take place in German.

Register here: https://doschdesign.com/3d-experience-day.php

The post DOSCH DESIGN and KeyShot hit the road in May first appeared on DIGITAL PRODUCTION and was written by Bela Beier.

Tradigital3D describes ShapeScape Studio as “a comprehensive toolkit for the digital painter.” It merges procedural generation with manual artistic control. Users can either pick from included presets or import their own meshes and texture maps to generate foliage in a custom, hand-painted style. The system allows procedural generation from any mesh, letting artists feed trees, bushes, or grass models through the modifier setup to create stylised structures. Hand-painted textures can be applied directly, either from the six included foliage texture presets or from user-created sheets.

The shader and colour parameters are fully adjustable, making it possible to simulate different seasons or moods by editing colour gradients and hue ramps. Built-in animation parameters allow for wind-driven motion, producing stylised movement in EEVEE renders. While the vendor claims “life-like simulation,” the exact deformation method is not documented and has not been independently verified at press time. The system remains fully non-destructive: artists can replace meshes, adjust textures, or retune shaders at any time without rebuilding the scene, thanks to its procedural node design.

What’s in the package

The toolkit includes more than 100 ready-to-use base models of trees, bushes, and grasses, and six NPR texture presets that can be freely replaced with personal hand-painted textures. ShapeScape operates as a node-based procedural system built on Blender’s modifier stack, including shader variations for trunk and leaf layers. Wind animation is built directly into the node graph and works in EEVEE without external plug-ins. The product supports Blender version 5.0 and newer, and requires no dependencies beyond the default Blender installation.

According to the vendor, the setup is lightweight enough for real-time viewport previews in EEVEE. Compatibility with Cycles is not confirmed, though Blender’s shared shader architecture would likely allow it to function with minor adjustments.

Technical implementation

ShapeScape Studio runs entirely within Blender’s native node framework, with no compiled Python components. It behaves as a modifier-based geometry nodes system, allowing users to inspect and modify the procedural graph directly. Textures are standard image maps, mapped via shader nodes to define the look of foliage and bark. Artists can tweak colour gradients, saturation, and value contrast to produce painterly light effects.

Wind animation appears to rely on procedural deformation using mathematical nodes, probably sine wave oscillation, allowing stylised motion at minimal computational cost. Because these parameters live inside the node tree, users can keyframe amplitude or speed values to tune movement per asset. The non-destructive nature of the setup means that animation can be disabled or modified without rebuilding the asset, making it easy to repurpose trees for static illustrations or stylised environments.

Workflow integration

ShapeScape Studio integrates cleanly into existing Blender projects. Artists can append the modifier setup or node group from the provided file into their own scenes and then replace the base meshes or materials with project-specific assets. Since it relies on EEVEE’s lightweight shading model, it is particularly well suited to stylised game backgrounds, animated short films, or concept visualisation.

Its workflow encourages NPR-style shading, prioritising brushstroke simulation, colour layering, and painterly gradients over physically based rendering. This makes it distinct from realism-driven vegetation tools such as Botaniq or Graswald, which focus on physically accurate materials and light scattering.

Pricing and licences

ShapeScape Studio is sold on Superhive Market under three licence tiers. The Editorial / Personal Licence costs USD 30 and is restricted to non-commercial use, suitable for hobbyists, students, and personal experiments. The Freelancer / Indie Commercial Licence, priced at USD 60, covers one artist for commercial or monetised projects, including commissions and freelance work. The Studio / Multi-Seat Commercial Licence, at USD 120, grants unlimited seats within a single organisation and allows full commercial deployment in professional productions.

All licence tiers include the same content and features; only the usage terms differ. The product page reports more than forty sales and lists the release date as nine days ago, indicating recent release and early adoption within Blender’s stylised-art community.

Context and ecosystem

ShapeScape Studio enters a well-populated ecosystem of Blender vegetation tools. Most existing packages such as Botaniq or MTree focus on physically based realism, aiming to match real-world botanical appearance. ShapeScape differentiates itself through its painterly focus and non-photorealistic shader design, offering a bridge between traditional digital painting and 3D environment construction.

For concept artists, illustrators, and stylised animators, the toolkit presents a fast way to populate scenes with vegetation that matches hand-painted backgrounds. Its procedural node foundation also makes it a useful teaching example for artists studying Blender’s geometry nodes system or non-destructive workflows.

Test before you grow

As with any procedural add-on, production users should test ShapeScape Studio in-house before applying it to commercial projects. Shader appearance, wind animation consistency, and modifier performance should be validated on target render pipelines and hardware setups. NPR toolkits often behave differently under different lighting models, and EEVEE’s approximation-based rendering may produce colour deviations that require manual compensation.

For those who don’t know the tool: Substance 3D Designer by Adobe is the procedural backbone of the Substance ecosystem, used to author textures, materials, filters, and 3D scan data for applications such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Maya, and Blender.
Graph creation, now less of a click-fest

Version 15.1 introduces a reworked graph creation window. Instead of plain text templates, users now see visual thumbnails of material and filter templates. Each preview displays the graph type and intended use, such as base materials, scan processing, or filters. Tooltips now provide short technical descriptions, making it easier to select the correct graph type. The window also features a new categorisation system, grouping templates by purpose. Users can still switch to legacy list or package views if they prefer.

Sample materials: less blank-page syndrome

To ease onboarding, Adobe has added ready-made example graphs for common material families: fabric, wood, metal, plastic, and ceramic. These graphs use clean node layouts and minimal complexity, illustrating practical network structures without clutter. The samples are embedded in the installation and open directly in the main window.

Noise nodes behave themselves

One long-standing annoyance in Designer was inconsistent noise behaviour. Version 15.1 brings better predictability to noise nodes like Cells, Cloud, Dirt, and Directional. Several noises no longer force tiling when used on non-repeating surfaces. Bit depth is no longer locked at 16-bit for most procedural patterns, giving artists finer control of data precision. Adobe has also unlocked additional parameters for certain noise types, allowing subtler tuning of randomisation and distribution. These changes should make procedural pattern generation more stable and flexible when working on high-frequency materials or custom filters.

Node search and grouping: smaller wins for large graphs

To make navigating large graphs faster, Designer 15.1 adds a Group attribute for nodes. When defined, this attribute helps organise search results by logical groups within a graph. It’s a small improvement that can make a large difference when managing hundreds of nodes.

Platform and pricing

Substance 3D Designer 15.1 is available now for Windows 11, macOS 12.0 or newer, and RHEL-compatible Linux. It ships via Adobe’s Substance 3D subscription plans or as a standalone perpetual licence for approximately $199.99 on Steam. The update installs directly through the Creative Cloud Desktop app for current subscribers.

What’s missing (and what’s not broken)

This release does not include any changes to the viewport renderer, path tracer, or USD import/export features introduced in 15.0. Those remain in place and function identically. There are no new node types or export formats. In other words, 15.1 is an incremental workflow update, not a rendering overhaul. As always, test the new version on non-critical projects before rolling it out in production, especially if your pipeline relies on custom graphs or legacy noise nodes.

The post Substance Designer cleans up its nodes first appeared on DIGITAL PRODUCTION and was written by Bela Beier.

Cascadeur 2025.3 brings its biggest visual overhaul to date with the introduction of Filament, a physically based rendering engine now integrated into the software’s viewport. Filament supports environment lighting, shadows and ambient occlusion. “Simple Textures” have been replaced by Materials, which now handle colour, roughness and other PBR-style texture channels. FBX imports now bring their material setups directly into Cascadeur scenes.

The Filament renderer is marked experimental and must be installed separately. It is Windows-only at this stage and currently omits certain features such as Ghosts and Linked Scenes. The developer states that full cross-platform integration is planned for later builds.

Smarter Inbetweening

The Inbetweening system (Cascadeur’s AI-assisted interpolation engine – more on that in an interview with the developers coming soon!) has been reworked. It is now treated as a type of interpolation, with its controls relocated to the Interpolation menu on the timeline. The Style option, previously hidden in Scene Settings, can now be accessed directly via a right-click context menu on the timeline. Artists can assign inbetweening selectively to specific animation tracks while using traditional interpolation on others.

The system now updates automatically when keyframes are added or modified, and an Update Inbetweening toggle (enabled by default) manages this behaviour. The Scene Settings panel also introduces an option for Fulcrum Motion Cleaning to refine AI-generated motion. The previous inbetweening method remains available through the Timeline menu for compatibility.

Cascadeur Quadrupeds Join the Cast

Cascadeur now officially supports quadruped characters. AutoPosing recognises four-legged models correctly, and the Quick Rigging Tool gains a Quadruped tab. These updates allow users to pose and rig non-humanoid creatures with less manual adjustment, expanding Cascadeur’s use cases beyond biped animation.

Rigging and Physics Refinements

The Quick Rigging Tool adds a Twists tab for defining twist and untwist bones. Each limb supports two twist joints by default, with additional ones creatable using standard rigging tools. This is especially useful for complex rigs from Daz Studio or Character Creator models. AutoPhysics improves inter-character collision and now includes angle limits for ragdoll joints.

Cascadeur Workflow

A new context menu on the timeline simplifies interpolation and keyframe management. Long animations now perform better, and users can resize animations while retaining keyframes. GLB export has been refined for closer visual parity with FBX. Cameras gain improved parameter control, import options, and copy functionality. Linked Scenes include new visibility, cycle and interval settings. Compatibility issues with 3DConnexion devices have also been addressed (Editorial: Which means a lot, we are still exclusively using our Space Pilot and Cadmouse!)

Outlook

Cascadeur 2025.3 positions Nekki’s animation platform closer to a full production toolset, bridging AI-assisted motion and traditional rigging. While Filament is not yet final, its viewport realism and material system hint at a more visually coherent workflow for animators and TDs. As always, test new features in controlled conditions before deploying them in production environments.

Modelling, sculpting, and precision updates

A new Manifold Boolean algorithm replaces the old “Fast” option, providing much faster and more accurate results on watertight meshes. Snapping now respects the 3D cursor’s rotation, and objects can be parented to specific vertices without entering edit mode. Curves editing gains new operators, while the point cloud object type is now fully supported with its own edit mode. In sculpt mode, brushes such as Draw, Clay Strips, and Plain now respond to pen tilt, with Clay Strips around 22 percent faster.

Artists can mask by colour, and brush jitter controls for hue, saturation, and value have been added. Performance improves when using small brushes on large meshes. UVs can now be previewed in object mode, even across multiple selected objects — a small but meaningful workflow enhancement for texture artists.

Geometry Nodes overhaul

Geometry Nodes receives its biggest expansion since 4.0. There’s a new Set Mesh Normals node for manipulating tangent-space normals and storing sharpness data. Six new import nodes allow direct reading of external data types — OBJ, STL, PLY, VDB, CSV and TXT — and files can be dragged straight into the editor to create the corresponding nodes automatically.

Additional nodes include Match String, BitMath, and Camera Info, along with new field utilities like Field Average, Field Min/Max, and Field Variance. Geometry Nodes now supports drag-and-drop creation of input sockets from the sidebar and nested frame colouring for complex networks. Grease Pencil also gains three node types, Set Grease Pencil Colour, Set Softness, and Grease Pencil Depth, bringing 2D animation closer to procedural workflows.

Animation, rigging, and shape keys

Pose mode adds quick selection of children, parents, or siblings via Shift-G. Playhead snapping has been standardised across all timeline-based editors, including the Graph Editor and VSE. Keying Sets now behave consistently, and individual bones can override their display type. Shape-key workflows benefit from two long-requested tools: Duplicate Shape Key and Update from Objects, allowing direct refresh of multiple shape keys from mesh changes. Script authors should note an API rename from
graph.keyframe_jump
to
screen.keyframe_jump
.

Grease Pencil 3.0 integration

The version integrates Grease Pencil 3.0 more deeply with Blender’s render passes and compositor. A new Grease Pencil Render Pass enables per-layer compositing with proper alpha handling, and new supersampling anti-aliasing produces cleaner line art in final renders. Modifiers can now target specific layers or groups, and boundary strokes (Fill Guides) can be drawn interactively to close gaps during fills. Several legacy operators, including outline stroke generation, return for compatibility.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="1200" height="675" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" src="https://i0.wp.com/digitalproduction.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/wPhA0imjvVs-00-26-05-12-Whats-New-in-Blender-4.5-LTS-Official-Overview.png?resize=1200%2C675&quality=72&ssl=1" alt="A digital rendering in Blender of a car displayed on a circular platform.
Rendering and lighting

Lights now include colour temperature and exposure controls, plus a normalisation option that keeps brightness consistent regardless of light size. The Cycles and EEVEE engines both gain a new Volume Coefficients Shader for physically accurate scattering, absorption, and emission.

EEVEE introduces shadow-terminator controls to fix self-shadowing on low-poly assets, a new reverse-Z algorithm for large scenes, and initial Vulkan backend support, offering smoother viewport performance and GPU subdivision.

Cycles receives a major boost to adaptive subdivision, now multi-threaded and roughly 10–15× faster. Normal-map filtering has been improved, and scripted OSL cameras allow physical lens simulation. AMD GPUs now use HIP ray-tracing acceleration by default.

Compositor and VSE improvements

The compositor now starts with a Viewer Node by default and can share compatible nodes with Shader and Geometry editors. A new Image Info Node exposes pixel dimensions; Relative to Pixel ensures resolution-independent blurs; and boolean inputs appear as checkboxes. GPU denoising and gizmos for Box and Ellipse Masks make compositing more intuitive.

In the Video Sequence Editor, playback performance is improved, metadata-rotated clips play correctly, and the Slip Tool is now smoother with synced keyframes. HDR previewing is supported, and several obsolete effects and the old cache system have been removed.

Asset browser, import/export, and file I/O

Screenshots can now be used as custom asset thumbnails with transparent backgrounds. Asset labels support multi-line text, horizontal lists improve node browsing, and import settings for geometry collections have moved to a central panel.

File import/export has expanded considerably: Geometry Nodes can now load and save PLY, OBJ, STL, VDB, CSV and TXT directly. USD import adds animated camera support, dome lights, and new primitives; FBX import is rewritten in C++ and is 3–15 times faster. GLTF export gains options for vertex colours, workbench materials, and AO baking.

<img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="1200" height="675" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" src="https://i0.wp.com/digitalproduction.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/wPhA0imjvVs-00-35-03-12-Whats-New-in-Blender-4.5-LTS-Official-Overview.png?resize=1200%2C675&quality=72&ssl=1" alt="A screenshot from Blender showing a node editor workspace. Several texture nodes are arranged, including diffuse and material properties, with connections indicating data flow.
UI and usability

Pen tablet support is improved with clearer region highlights, larger hit-boxes, and consistent pen-tilt response. Number-field scrolling now works on text boxes, and mouse-wheel fine-tuning behaves uniformly. The Outliner, Properties and Spreadsheet editors all received readability tweaks and new layout options. The light theme, icons, and scrollbars have been refined; Linux users get sharper Wayland cursors, macOS gets text-editing shortcuts, and Windows users will notice fewer white flashes during startup. On the housekeeping side, the developers confirmed that Intel macOS builds and COLLADA import/export are being deprecated. These removals simplify maintenance but may impact legacy pipelines. As always, Digital Production recommends testing the update in your own environment before deploying it in ongoing projects.

What the user survey reveals

The user survey is stil going – take part now!

What to expect in Blender 5.0 and the beta

Blender 5.0 entered public beta in October 2025. The current schedule foresees a release candidate around 5 November and a final release approximately a week later, on 11 November 2025. The beta already showcases some substantial changes to rendering, colour management, and user experience.

The most visible shift is expanded support for HDR and wide-gamut colour workflows, including improved ACES handling for compositors and colourists. Geometry Nodes continue to mature, with new modifiers, curve improvements, and better import support for external data. The user interface has been streamlined; over 300 theme settings were removed to unify the appearance and simplify customisation.

For technical directors, the key takeaway is that Blender 5.0 will mark a major version jump, and it may introduce breaking changes. Some add-ons and Python scripts may need updates to remain compatible. As of press time, not all release notes are complete, and several API changes remain undocumented, so early pipeline testing is strongly recommended.

What studios should consider now

For productions currently in progress, Blender 4.5 LTS should be considered the stable baseline. Its two-year support cycle makes it a safe anchor for long-term projects. Technical directors should also note the dropped support for Intel macOS builds and the gradual phase-out of COLLADA, to prevent unexpected pipeline breaks.

At the same time, teams can use the beta phase of Blender 5.0 to begin parallel testing. Doing so will identify add-on incompatibilities and prepare asset libraries for the Vulkan-based rendering core that will eventually replace OpenGL entirely. The Blender 2024 survey results offer valuable insight: stability is now the community’s strongest demand. Adopting the LTS version while cautiously evaluating 5.0 beta aligns with that philosophy.
