Keyvia Announces and Ships New MediaWorks Archive Server

Addresses the Need for Integrated Off-Line Storage in Media Asset Management

Keyvia Inc., a world-leading developer of

DMAM (digital media asset management) solutions for the broadcast,

post-production and corporate markets, has announced that its flagship

asset management product, Key-MediaWorks, is now available with a new

archiving solution add-on. The MediaWorks Archive Server is designed to

provide a direct connection between Keyvia”s asset management solution and

archive managers, delivering a totally integrated management solution. The

first archive manager supported on the system is EMC Corporation”s Avalon

Archive Manager (AAM).

“One of the major issues of any asset management system is managing the

flow of information between on-line and off-line storage,” said Michel

Beland, Product Manager at Keyvia. “The MediaWorks Archive Server addresses

this issue through the connection to archive managers. In this way,

material can be moved from on-line to off-line storage and back as needed,

all under the direction of MediaWorks, and all transparent to the user.”

MediaWorks Archive Server triggers the archiving process — archiving

content, restoring materials back to an on-line server from the archive,

controlling the deletion of materials from the archive, and providing

status of all archived material. The system is available as an add-on to

the Key-MediaWorks system — in keeping with the Key-MediaWorks philosophy

of flexibility, which allows users to specify the key functions of their

DMAM system and then add others at a later time, as their needs evolve.

The EMC Avalon Archive Manager was selected as the first archive manager to

interface with MediaWorks Archive Server because of its reputation in the

broadcast industry, its already large installed user base, and its ability

to support a large number of devices. AAM provides a file-level interface

for robotic tape libraries and other storage devices, and handles all of

the storage and retrieval activities. MediaWorks Archive Server sends the

request for material to be archived to AAM. For subsequent use, the

MediaWorks Archive Server remembers that the material is under AAM

management and sends a request to AAM to retrieve the video. EMC”s Avalon

solutions are compatible with Philips DVS, Silicon Graphics, Tektronix

Inc., Hewlett-Packard, Leitch/ASC, ADIC, Storagetek, and Sony, and can be

adapted to other systems.

“A dramatic change is taking place in the way our customers manage their

media content,” said Doron Kempel, Vice President and General Manager of

EMC”s Media Solutions Group. “Integrating media asset and information

storage management solutions holds great promise for the effective

management of rich media content. Together, Keyvia”s MediaWorks Asset

Management System and EMC”s Avalon Archive Manager enable customers to

bring order to the complexity and deliver content to users when and where

its needed.”

The Key-MediaWorks Asset Management System Version 1.3 (which will begin

shipping at NAB 2001) is a complete environment for managing broadcast

digital assets by combining Asset Management, Recording Automation, and

Proxy Browsing and Marking into a scalable client/server architecture.

LAN-based PC workstations are able to browse and mark digital assets under

configuration using a frame-accurate, low-resolution proxy while preserving

the integrity of the high-resolution originals stored in video servers.
