Berlin social-software specialist I-D Media AG is responsible for the concept, design and technical implementation.
In 2008, I-D Media developed the Club Sonus product community for Sony’s Alpha digital SLR camera, which was well received by its target audience. The success confirmed Sony Germany’s decision to give the social web a stronger role in future communication strategies.
“With Reader Club, we want first to make our target audience more aware of e-books. We believe nobody can communicate the added value of this technology more effectively or credibly than satisfied e-book reader owners,” said Thilo Röhrig, Head of Communications at Sony Germany. “We also want to be the first place people go for questions and operating tips. We hope to receive critical feedback and suggestions for improvement that we can pass directly to product development.”
At launch, the platform focuses on discussion forums, new e-book releases and information about Sony Reader. Interaction will expand gradually over the following months. Community members will soon be able to write short stories with authors, publish their own e-books, write reviews and connect with each other.
