On the day of filming, 80 professional crews were working across the city, while all Berlin residents were invited to record their own video diary under the motto “Berlin goes wild! Join the shoot!” and upload it to the website.
Two juries reviewed the uploaded video diaries and selected their favourites: online users and a prominent expert jury.
The expert jury—Dieter Kosslick of the Berlin International Film Festival, Volker Heise of zero one film, Dr Claudia Nothelle of rbb television, Dr Hans Hege of Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg and Robert Eysoldt of Triad Berlin—selected “frühstück,” a spontaneous, fresh video about the spirit of life in Friedrichshain, for first prize. “Mein Berlin,” featuring young presenters Meret and Moritz, placed second. Third went to “Rote Schuhe,” which shows everyday Berlin from an unusual perspective. “A microcosm and mirror of our society at the same time. Passionate and amused, self-critical and committed, the protagonists always have a song on their lips,” Kosslick said of the winning video.
Users reached a different but equally clear decision. “Mein Berlin” was the audience favourite with 915 votes, far ahead of the competition. “Bergmannstraße” placed second with 700 votes, while “Willkommen in Berlin,” showing familiar and hidden aspects of the city from constantly changing perspectives, placed third.
Prizes include tickets for radioBerlin 88.8’s open-air concert at Wuhlheide, performances at GRIPS-Theater and Radialsystem, the next Kurt Krömer Show on rbb television, and material prizes from ARTE.
All video diaries remain available at http://www.24hberlin.tv and have a chance to become part of the 24-hour television programme to be broadcast by rbb and ARTE on September 5, 2009.
