New Energy-Analysis Tool for ARCHICAD 12

GRAPHISOFT developed EcoDesigner for early-stage energy-demand analysis inside ARCHICAD 12, with German availability planned for May 2009.

Professional energy-demand calculations had previously required detailed planning models, meaning a building’s energy behaviour could only be represented at an advanced project stage. EcoDesigner was designed to provide reliable information about a building’s expected energy demand during the early design phase. GRAPHISOFT said this could reduce costly and time-consuming redesign work aimed at improving energy efficiency and establish new standards for sustainable planning and construction.

“With EcoDesigner, we have developed a user-friendly, integrated and forward-looking tool that equips our customers for energy-efficient planning. We are not merely talking about climate protection; we are also providing the necessary technologies,” said Johannes Reischböck, managing director of GRAPHISOFT Deutschland GmbH.

“A large proportion of the planning decisions that significantly influence a building’s energy demand are made by the architect at a very early design stage. Energy consultants and engineers can only make corrections at a later project stage by selecting materials and technologies,” said Miklos Szovenyi-Lux, vice president of GRAPHISOFT’s development division. “With GRAPHISOFT EcoDesigner, however, architects can make important decisions in their familiar working environment that positively influence a building’s energy balance — and do so at the earliest planning stage.”

GRAPHISOFT EcoDesigner was expected to become available in Germany at the end of May 2009.
