Sony Online Entertainment announced that more than two million players had registered for Free Realms at http://www.FreeRealms.com, its family-friendly free-to-play MMOG. The English version launched on April 28, 2009. With 75% of registered users under 17 and around 46% under 13, Free Realms is particularly successful among young players. To celebrate the milestone, all players receive a Party Pack of in-game items.
“In less than a month, Free Realms has captivated a large player base of teens and tweens and also resonated strongly with MMO fans,” says Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley. “We wanted to create a game we could play with our families and are delighted to have hit the mark with our intended audience.”
As one of the fastest-growing online worlds, Free Realms has also established itself strongly among female players, who account for nearly one third of users.
Free Realms lets every player create an avatar and try an enormous variety of minigames in a safe online environment with striking graphics, distinctive landscapes and social-networking options. Players can be and do what they want: undertake adventures as a formidable ninja, prepare a fine menu, fight goblins, overcome epic challenges or connect with friends through a personal, secure social-networking homepage.
