The first FilmerCamp will take place at the Institute of Media Design at Mainz University of Applied Sciences from August 7–9, 2009. The hackermovies.com community and students from Mainz University of Applied Sciences have invited German-speaking filmmakers to this exchange of knowledge and experience supported by Sony. The main topics of the more than 20 filmmaking workshops and sessions include post-production and design as well as collaboration, communication and budgeting.
“Whether professional or film student, FilmerCamp is aimed at all passionate indie and low-budget filmmakers who want to exchange ideas, network and be inspired at an ambitious, cinematically accomplished level,” says Steffen Hacker of hackermovies.com. “Many committed filmmakers have already confirmed their attendance—including directors, writers and sound designers—and will be represented with workshops and in sessions. Thanks to support from sponsors such as Sony, it is possible not only to launch such a communication platform, but actually to implement it.”
Numerous workshops and sessions focus on innovative film technology, design and business. The topics range from “Movies for the Seeing – Designing the Film Medium Innovatively” and “Low Budget, High Tech – Innovative Technology and Tight Budgets” to “Post-Production Made Easy – Tips and Tricks for Film Post-Processing.” Sony is offering participants a session entitled “Tapeless Workflow with HD Prosumer Cameras for Indie Productions.”
Independent-film screenings of “Break” and “Auf bösem Boden,” field tests with current Sony PMW-EX1 and PMW-EX3 camcorders, and a party night round out the two-day programme of the first FilmerCamp.
