The new gadgets from Blackmagic

Problems with the battery life of your pocket camera? Blackmagic had the answer at NAB!

In addition to the big DaVinci Resolve & Fusion 16 release, Blackmagic has also unleashed a few more hardware announcements on users: The new Hyperdeck Extreme 8K, Multidock 10G – but most importantly a battery grip for the Pocket Camera 4K, as well as a new Editor Keyboard for all DaVinci fans.

The new Editor Keyboard

The newly introduced DaVinci Resolve Editor Keyboard is designed to enable significantly faster editing than with conventional workflows (with mouse and keyboard) in DaVinci. With a robust metal design, the integrated scroll wheel enables faster clip searches. It also offers, among other things…

  • Control wheel for selecting and searching clips or for timeline scrolling
  • Large In/Out buttons for quick selection of In/Out points in the timeline
  • Source Tape & Timeline for quickly sorting and organising clips
  • Keyboard edit modes including Smart Insert, Ripple Overwrite, Place On Top, Source Overwrite and other keyboard functions
  • Live trimming with various “Roll” buttons below the In/Out buttons
  • Transitions can be applied directly using the Cut, Dissolve and Smooth Cut buttons
  • Timecode keypad for faster numerical entry of timecodes

Price & availability: The Editor Keyboard will be available from Blackmagic Design resellers from August for the equivalent of around €910.

Battery Grip for the Pocket Camera 4K

One of the biggest drawbacks of the new Pocket Camera so far has been its battery life – in many cases, the camera has already stopped working after 40 minutes of direct recording. At NAB 2019, the manufacturer has now solved this problem with a new announcement: the new non-slip camera grip includes 2 L-series batteries for a total of more than 2 hours of uninterrupted recording time.

The grip was developed exclusively for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and is used instead of the standard rechargeable battery. The batteries in the grip can also be recharged via the camera’s 12 V input.

Price & availability: The new handle will unfortunately only be available worldwide via Blackmagic Design resellers in August this year. The price is €269!
