THQ Nordic takes over Metricminds

The masterminds from Frankfurt fraternising with the Nordic Viennese? Will this lead to a clash of cultures – or simply to better games?

In nuce: THQ Nordic acquires the studio Metricminds. This is the result of a recent press release. Metricminds is known as a Frankfurt-based service provider that primarily creates animations within game engines (e.g. Alan Wake, Crysis 3, Borderlands 2, Horizon Zero Dawn). THQ Nordic is an Austrian computer games company based in Vienna, which unites many important games (brands) under one roof (Desperados, Aquanox, The Guild, etc.). Metricminds thus becomes a 100 per cent subsidiary of THQ Nordic. The company’s orientation as a service provider in the field of animation remains unaffected by the takeover.

What does the takeover mean for employees? The acquisition includes the entire Metricminds core team. According to the press release, the terms of the takeover will not be disclosed.

What can the Frankfurt-based Metricminds do? The studio was founded in 2001 and has since made a name for itself primarily in the gaming sector. Metricminds has created cutscenes, trailers, motion capturing, keyframe animations, facial animations and entire cinematics for various high-quality titles such as Witcher, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Batman Arkham Origins, Darksiders III and Risen 2: Dark Waters.
