Photogrammetry app for Apple & Android handsets released!

Kiri Innovation is making a smartphone app available that turns real-world objects into 3D objects fairly quickly. Available free of charge and for a fee.

In nuce: The Canadians from Kiri Innovation have released a free 3D scanning app for Apple and Android mobile devices. The software is called Kiri Engine and is aimed at users who are looking for a smartphone app that allows them to scan objects using photogrammetry. According to the developers, image noise is automatically removed from the 3D scans using machine learning. Once the user has photographed the desired object from various angles and distances, the generated 3D model is downloaded in either OBJ or FBX file format.

Free & paid: In addition to the free version, which has a limited range of functions, the app is also available for a fee. The free version is limited in terms of the 3D scans that can be exported weekly and the photos that can be taken per project. The paid version cancels these restrictions.

The following video demonstrates in fast-forward how the app turns a real-world action figure into a breakdancing robot in a sci-fi setting. On 21 March this year , Digital Production reported on the release of version 6.5 of the photogrammetry software 3DF Zephyr.
