A user-friendly 3D scanning app?

Qlone offers low-threshold photogrammetry: according to the developer, it’s child’s play to use. A mobile app for Apple and Android devices.

In nuce: Qlone, a cloud-based 3D scanning app, is released – aimed in particular at users interested in photogrammetry. The developer advertises the app’s ease of use. The scanned objects can be modelled using the app. Qlone is available for both Apple and Android mobile devices.

How does Qlone work? According to the developer, Qlone is relatively easy to use:

  • Print out a free Qlone mat (on regular printer paper, which should be wrinkle-free though). The Qlone mats are available in different sizes – depending on the size of the object to be scanned, a correspondingly large Qlone mat must be printed
  • Place the object in the centre of the Qlone mat
  • Align the smartphone with the Qlone mat and object using the Qlone app. The app guides the user through the scanning process. The scanning process consists of completely circling the object once – always with the smartphone at the ready. Alternatively, the user can turn the Qlone mat (with the object on it) by hand. This also enables the desired object to be scanned all round using the app. Voilà! The scanning process is complete
  • The developers recommend carrying out the scanning process in a well-lit room. The complete process is explained in the video below
