Moonknight | VFX Breakdown

Oscar Isaac in the face of the ancient Egyptian moon god Khonshu. Visual effects in series from London – and from Union VFX.

In nuce: Union VFX has released a VFX breakdown for Disney’s streaming series Moon Knight. In the series, a former CIA agent, played by Oscar Isaac, is rescued by the ancient Egyptian moon god Khonshu. The series has been available on the Disney Plus streaming platform since March this year. Other roles include: Ethan Hawke, May Calamawy and eye-pleasing VFXs from Union VFX. Moon Knight is produced by Kevin Feige, the central creative mind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mohamed Diab, among others, has been hired to direct some of the episodes. The Egyptian screenwriter and director adds authenticity to the series with his personal background.

Union VFX, based in Soho, London, specialises in VFX design, CG animation, digital makeup, compositing and matte painting. The service provider pays particular attention to GC environments and effects that remain invisible to viewers. In addition to Moon Knight, the company’s portfolio includes the sequel Trainspotting 2, the sci-fi film Annihilation, the award-winning Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri and the actioner The Gentlemen. Victor Perez is one of the artists who worked for Union VFX (Digital Production reported on 11 March 2022).
