In toto: The latest pen display from Wacom was developed by digital artists and content creation teams. It combines pen and touch technology with high-quality screen and colour performance. Compared to the Cine Pro 24, the Cintiq Pro 27 takes up less space and is lighter. At the same time, Wacom is introducing the Pro Pen 3, which can be customised in terms of grip strength, weight and weight distribution. In the press release, Faik Karaoglu, Executive Vice President of Wacom’s Branded Business Group, says of the new device: “The specialised needs of freelance and in-house creatives who need to collaborate freely, quickly and efficiently on a global scale require a multifunctional creative tool.”
By the way: In our next but one issue, Digital Production 01 : 2023, we will put the Cintiq Pro 27 through the test lab and tell you whether the pen display delivers what the press release promises.

Technical specifications: Below are the most important technical specifications of the Wacom Cintiq Pro 27:
- Thin 27-inch (68.58 cm) screen: Has virtually no parallax or latency according to the press release, has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, making the cursor respond to input almost twice as fast as previous models. The display is equipped with HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) and the PQ gamma curve (Perceptual Quantisation) for displaying and processing HDR (High Dynamic Range) video content. The details: 4k resolution in 10-bit colours, 98 percent DCI-P3 (Digital Cinema Initiatives – Protocol 3), colour accuracy of 99 percent Adobe RGB. The press release advertises the Pantone Validated seal and the Pantone SkinTone Validated seal. This means that the Cintiq Pro 27 meets the Pantone standard for the precise representation of the entire range of human skin colours.
- Space-saving: The Cintiq Pro 27 display takes up less space than the Cintiq Pro 24 and the borderless, roughened glass surface is designed to give users precise control and natural pen guidance on the screen.
- Multi-touch: is helpful for the user’s non-dominant hand. For example, when it comes to zooming in and out or rotating a model during creative work while working in parallel with the pen. The Selective Touch function with ten points offers operation via sliders and is primarily aimed at creative professionals in the field of virtual production. The pen display is compatible with both Mac and Windows. The multi-touch function under Linux depends on the support of the respective application. Multi-touch can also be optionally switched off.
- Pro Pen 3: Grip strength, weight and weight distribution of the pen can be customised. There is also improved tilt detection. Like its predecessors, the Pro Pen 3 is also equipped with EMR (electromagnetic resonance) technology – with 8,192 pressure levels and battery-free operation. The pen has three programmable side switches that can be assigned to software shortcuts.
- The developers have also focussed on comfort functions and user-definability – including a display on the back of the pen: A total of eight ExpressKeys have been placed on the back of the display, four on each side, so that users can quickly access frequently used commands. An expandable frame with a small storage area has also been added. This is suitable for storing a keyboard or smartphone, for example. The new stand is also versatilely adjustable, allowing the screen to be rotated by /- 20 degrees. Users can also choose to use stand solutions from other providers.
