Preview: AI Denoiser from Nvidia

Fast GPU render results thanks to AI Denoiser: working with Nvidia, here are OptiX 5.0 previews for Redshift, V-Ray, Clarisse and Final Render!

AI-based features are increasingly finding their way into various software tools. Most recently, Adobe offered a preview of Adobe Sensei-supported functions, among others. These include tools such as Subject Select, Project Deep Fill, but also already integrated features such as Morph Cut in Premiere or the visual Stock search function. There are also promising fields of application for the 3D sector – one of them concerns denoising, which Nvidia wants to accelerate significantly together with several partners using AI in OptiX 5.0.

Nvidia OptiX 5.0 AI Denoiser

The OptiX API from Nvdia is a freely available framework for creating efficient GPU raytracing performance. OptiX 5.0 enables, among other things, the use of an AI-accelerated denoiser based on a Siggraph 2017 paper from NVIDIA-Resarch. You can watch a good summary of it here. The AI-accelerated denoiser was trained with thousands of images rendered from 3D scenes. Together with Isotropix (Clarisse), Redshift Render, Chaos Group (V-Ray) and cebas visual technology (Final Render), here you see previews of the denoiser for the various renderers, which are planned for upcoming releases.
