Betatest: Houdini Engine in C4D

Side Effects Software and Maxon have launched a public beta programme to integrate the Houdini Engine into Cinema 4D.

Once the Houdini Engine plug-in is running stably in Cinema 4D, complex, sophisticated simulations can be created directly in C4D in a node-based environment. At the same time, Houdini users would benefit from the intuitive workflow and stability of the Maxon tool. Assets can be optimally transferred to Cinema 4D via the Houdini Engine interface, making the production process much smoother and faster.

“After careful testing by the Maxon and Side Effects teams, we now want to give Houdini and Cinema 4D users the opportunity to put the integration through its paces before we add it as an integral part of Cinema 4D,” says Oliver Meiseberg, Director Product and Partnership Management at Maxon.

Become a beta tester

Even though Maxon says that the plug-in is already quite stable, the company expressly points out that it is a beta version, which is why system crashes and data loss cannot be ruled out when using it. For this reason, the software should not be installed on systems that are essential for daily production processes. The licence conditions (EULA) for this beta test are automatically accepted when the plug-in is installed and should therefore be read carefully beforehand.

If these requirements are not a problem for you, you can download the plug-in here at Maxon.

All detailed information about the Houdini Engine plug-in for C4D can be found here.

Sample scenes for testing

Maxon has also prepared a few sample scenes to test the integration.

Here you can download the sample scene “Bouncy Text” as a zip file from this video.

Download the file for the “Cake with syrup” scene here – digital sugar shock included.

And if you’d like to have a few people around you: You can also do tests with a crowd simulation.

The communication platform for the public beta programme is the Side Effects Forum. There, users can exchange ideas and ask questions to the experts from Maxon or Side Effects. Click here to register.

FMX presentation

The Houdini Engine for C4D has already been presented at this year’s FMX. Here in full length:

The Houdini Engine is also being developed as a plug-in for many other tools, including Maya, 3ds Max, Unreal and Unity Engine. All further information can be found here.
