Foundry currently has several new releases, including the fourth version of the 3D texture painting software.
What’s new in Mari 4.0?
With this release, Foundry has focussed on making the tool faster to use – so there are particular adjustments to the project set-up, the interface and general workflows.
- Project Setup & Export is faster and more flexible with the new release. Among other things, automatic shader and light setups are now possible at the start. You can also create batch exports of channel and bake point nodes using a new export manager. It is now also possible to generate multiple files from the same source.
- Interface changes mainly affect the workspace for the painting process, which has been tidied up and enlarged for the user. The HUD is now located at the bottom right, the palettes have been reduced and are automatically hidden in a vertical bar.
- Worfklow improvements include a new grouping feature for layers and a new drag & drop mechanism for colour fills.
- 3rd party plug-ins are now customised according to the VFX reference platform, which Foundry has based on the 2017 specifications. In addition, Mari now also offers a shader based on Disney’s principled BRDF model.
