At SIGGRAPH 2019, SideFX recently presented, among other things, a new lookdev context with LOD,e new renderer, USD support, layout, lighting tools and more. The features are intended to be integrated into upcoming Houdini versions. The major highlights are above all:
- Solaris: Node-based USD environment for lighting, lookdev, layout and rendering.
- Karma: CPU-based render engine with Hydra support, which is intended to replace Mantra later.
In the reveal video, the nodes of the various contexts can now also be edited in one common location. For layout tasks, objects can also be arranged quickly through a Stage Manager—without much effort with nodes. With physically based tools, the layout process is intended to be accelerated further by allowing objects to collide when placed, for example.
No release information is known so far.

Karma ist GPU basiert.
Das macht ihn speziell, weil Mantra eben CPU basiert ist. Leider funktioniert Karma nicht so gut wie erwartet.
