Nuke 13.1 | Release

In beta: The compositing triple around Nuke, NukeX and Nuke Studio – test it now!

In nuce: Foundry releases Nuke 13.1 – as a beta for the time being. Existing users can test the beta now. The beta phase affects all three offshoots of the node-based compositing software, i.e. Nuke, NukeX and Nuke Studio.

All three together: Nuke, NukeX and Nuke Studio – benefit, according to Foundry, from the completely revamped 3D user experience: new design for the viewport transform, or gizmos for size and rotation are to be mentioned here. The design of the new gizmos has been adapted to that of Katana – as have the standard hotkeys for switching between transform modes. The following functionality has now been added: switching between local, world and screen space; this allows objects along different axes to be rearranged simultaneously. In addition, pivot points of geometries can be moved without moving the geometries themselves.

Shake (it) to Disconnect, Baby: And if you’ve always wanted to conveniently remove a node – or several nodes at the same time – from the node graph, you’ll be pleased to hear that you can now do this by shaking the affected nodes back and forth with the cursor.

Now merged with Unreal: UnrealReader is a new NukeX node that connects you Nuke with the Unreal Editor. This should make it easier to create live renderings, especially for the compositors among you. Live renderings created in the Unreal Engine can be further processed in Nuke using the NukeX node.

We like it soft: five new soft effects have been added to Hiero and Nuke Studio. But that’s not all, because effects that were already available in previous versions have been given an extended range of functions. You can find out exactly what these are in the penultimate video below.

More information: Users can test the beta of version 13.1 using their existing licence key for the full release of version 13.0. Provided you have registered, you can test the beta of Nuke 13.1 here and find out more about the new features. Alternatively, you can click through the videos linked below, which present the new features in sound and colour. Nota bene: Foundry recently entered the public beta phase with another piece of software, Mari 5.0. If you’re interested in trying out the beta, you’ll have plenty to keep you busy in Foundry terms.
