In nuce: IDV releases the latest version of its vegetation software SpeeTree – this time with version number 9.
Showcase features: The three features that IDV is emphasising on the occasion of its release are “Photogrammetry Conversion”, “Freehand Creation” and “Models for Every Biome”. There are also a number of smaller improvements. We take a quick look at the flagship features below.
Photogrammetry Conversion: This allows you to convert photogrammetric scans into procedural models. According to the developers, the process should be so powerful that you will even be able to recognise photorealistic details on your models. If you want to add more details to your model or retouch existing ones, you can do this after the conversion – SpeedTree’s procedural tools will help you with this. Incidentally, you can control the photogrammetry conversion via the familiar Mesh Converter .

Freehand Conversion: This is a collection of tools that allows you to twist, deform, slim or thicken your models as you wish. In its feature description, IDV recommends its users to use Freehand Conversion in combination with procedural generators. This should enable you to achieve an optimised workflow. You can navigate to the Freehand Creation via the Freehand Mode.

Models for Every Biome: Browse through a library stocked with numerous plant assets – including: PRB textures, seasonal variations of your plants or customisable weather conditions.
Cost: The indie version of SpeedTree currently costs 19 US dollars per month. The Pro version, which IDV recommends to freelancers and smaller teams, costs a one-off fee of 299 US dollars. A free learning version for students is also available.

Click further: On the SpeedTree website , you can not only check out “Photogrammetry Conversio”, “Freehand Conversion” and “Models for Every Biome”, but also discover what smaller feature delights there are to discover with SpeeTree 9 (e.g. HDRI lighting, USD support, VFX wind).
