In nuce: AMD releases Radeon ProRender 3.4 for Blender and Maya – the latest version of the free GPU renderer, which offers physically correct rendering. Incidentally, the Blender version of the renderer is compatible with both Blender 3.1 and Blender 3.2. Just last week, AMD released its source-free USD Hydra plugin in version 1.1 (we reported on this on 9 June 2022 ).
Squeaked features: As an example, we show you two of the new functions below, which are valid for both tools – for Blender and Maya.
- Fog control (Fog Control) and atmosphere control (Fog Control): These can be called up in the World Properties Panel. You can use the controls found there to adjust the density, gradient or height of the fog, for example.
- Overwritable shadow settings: Objects on which shadows are cast (although this goes against your creative wishes) are now a thing of the past. You can also regulate the colour of the shadow cast.
