How to simulate a realistic flamethrower?

From VFX software developer Sitni Sati comes a new video tutorial on the simulation software FumeFX – for users of 3ds Max.

In nuce: The VFX software developer Sitni Sati has published a tutorial for FumeFX – its name: Flamethrower Tutorial with FumeFX 6 for 3ds Max (Flamethrower Tutorial with Fume FX for 3ds Max). Sitni Sati is a company that claims to have 20 years of experience in the research and development of VFX software. FumeFX, on the other hand, is a simulation software whose version 6 beta release was announced by Digital Production on 30 August 2022 . The beta version is free of charge, is offered as a commercial licence and is valid up to and including 21.12. of this year.

In toto: The almost half-hour tutorial video explains how a flamethrower can be simulated – with the help of the so-called NodeWorks particles and FumeFX sources. The description of the tutorial goes on to say that artists are taught how to simulate a napalm flame, including the characteristic rolling movement and associated plumes of smoke. The topics covered in the tutorial are listed: Particles, PhysX, FumeFX simulation, Arnold Rendering with Volume Ray Depth. FumeFX is also available for Maya and Cinema 4D (move the cursor over the Products menu item in the header of the company website and click on 3ds Max, Cinema 4D or Maya in the drop-down menu that then opens).
