In nuce: Autodesk has released version 2023.3 of Maya. This is according to announcements from Autodesk; see corresponding publications on the help page help.autodesk.com, the release note and the message “What’s New in Maya?” on makeanything.autodesk.com.
In toto: Below is a list of the most important new features in Autodesk Maya 2023.3.
- Workflow improvements to the animation tools: This applies in particular to those that have been requested by users – including: the Proximity Wrap Deformer, the Graph Editor and the Time Editor. The Proximity Wrap Deformer can now also take into account deformations that have been applied to driver objects. The Graph Editor has been enriched with a function that was previously cut: The ability to select whether dragging with the left mouse button performs a movement or just selects something. Finally, the Time Editor has been improved by introducing a workaround for audio problems with Playblast. Playblast refers to preview videos that users can display in the Maya viewport.
- Updates for the Arnold, Substance and USD plug-ins: On cgchannel.com, author Jim Thaker describes the way in which display layers are handled in USD for Maya 0.20 as the most notable new feature.
Click further: On 22 September this year , Digital Production reported on the latest new version of Autodesk Maya – at the time it was version 2023.2, which attracted attention with a polished animation workflow, improved rigging and enhanced plug-ins. Or rather, Autodesk released an update for its physics simulation software Bitfrost just this week, on 12 December 2022 to be precise. Incidentally, the two stingrays in the lead image above were created by surfacing artist Olga Dannik.
