In nuce: Software developer SideFX has published the revised edition of its Houdini Foundations manual. This is according to an announcement published on sidefx.com on 21 December 2021. The reference book is available free of charge as a PDF; the print edition is priced at 20 euros and can be purchased via the self-publishing platform Lulu.com .
In toto: The 224-page book by author Robert Magee ( Senior Product Marketing Manager at SideFX) provides information on the basics of Houdini 19.5 and is designed to help readers get started with the software. To make this possible, the reader goes through several lessons in which – with the help of a simple example project – the various software components are demonstrated. The reader is introduced to Houdini’s node-based, procedural workflow – and how to transfer a creative project to Unreal Engine 4.
Look inside the book & click on: All in all, the book is divided into nine chapters (Overview; Modelling, Rendering, Animating; Nodes, Networks and Digital Assets; Breaking Wine Glass; Destruction FX; Terrain Creation; KineFX Rigging | Fur Dude; Procedural Assets for Unreal; Building a City with Procedural Dependency Graph). On 20 March 2018 , Tom Jansen reported for Digital Production on one of the previous editions of the reference book – at that time, author Robert Magee prepared basic knowledge for Houdini 16.5 with Houdini Foundations.
