Pool Shark is what Brawley calls the nearly one-minute shot that he presented on his blog. It was recorded with a BMD Cinema Camera in conjunction with a Zeiss compact lens. The panoramic pans used 35 mm, the wide-angle shots used 18 mm, and 50 mm as well as 85 mm were used for closer shots. T2.8 or T8 was selected for exposure, the ISO value was 800, and ProRes 422 was the the selected video codec.
There has long been speculation about whether the BMD camera will steal the show from video DSLRs in the future, and with the new Pool Shark shot it seems to be confirmed. Okay – the size of the device can be debated, but it is inexpensive, has a good aperture range, depth of field, and high-quality output material.
