3ds Max Indie

3ds Max and Maya Indie soon available worldwide!

Let’s continue with the good news: After Nuke, Max and Maya are now apparently at the start with “worldwide” indie versions.

Anyone who has been following the situation now has reason to rejoice: after the first pilot programme almost a year ago, the indie versions of Maya and 3ds Max are just around the corner. From 7 August 2020, the tools will be available to all artists earning less than €100,000 a year. Current users of the 3ds Max pilot programme have received the information via email, which you can view in various posts. The Product Line Manager for Maya & the Entertainment Collection has subsequently confirmedthe same date for Maya via Twitter.

Maya and 3ds Max Indie “worldwide”

Until now, the indie version was only available to people from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Great Britain and Australia. With the new release date, countries for which Autodesk offers an eStore will be added.

Restrictions and availability

According to current information, there should be no functional restrictions as with the new Nuke Indie licence. Created scenes and assets can also be exported, rendered or imported without restriction in the pilot programme. However, users must fulfil the following requirements in order to take out a subscription:

  • A maximum of 100,000 USD/year gross revenue of the user/organisation from design work (Note: This is an upper limit and may vary by country).
  • Only one licence per user/organisation may be used.

Those who meet these requirements will then be able to register for the Indie Programme. The price for this is currently around $250/year.

We will addfurther information here if there is any news!
