Fast Lines for Blender: Stylized Outline Generator Released

RUIDO VFX’s Stylized Outline Generator for Blender adds quick anime-style outlines without shaders or Grease Pencil rigs.

RUIDO VFX has released the Stylized Outline Generator, a small utility add-on for Blender designed to create anime-style outlines without complex shader setups. The tool applies outlines directly to selected meshes, avoiding the usual combination of inverted-normal duplicates or Freestyle rendering passes.

Fast NPR Without Nodes

The generator targets stylised, cel-shaded, or anime-style workflows where fast visual feedback matters. Because it’s based on Eevee and Blender’s built-in modifiers, there’s no dependency on Freestyle or complex material nodes. Each object can have independent outline thickness values. By default, outline colour is shared, but artists can duplicate the generated material to assign custom hues per object. The add-on automatically accounts for object scale to preserve consistent line width across differently sized assets. If a mesh lacks materials, it generates a base material automatically before applying the outline.

Stylized Outline Generator: Setup and Use

Installation follows standard Blender add-on procedure: Users open Preferences, install the ZIP file, and enable “Ultimate Outline Generator”. In the viewport, pressing N reveals the Ultimate Outline panel. From there, selecting an object, adjusting outline thickness and colour, and clicking Apply creates the effect. Artists can modify settings and reapply updates at any time. The add-on works only with Eevee as the active render engine, since the Emission material and backface culling rely on Eevee’s real-time shading behaviour.

Simple Tool, Clear Results

Ultimate Outline’s function overlaps with Blender’s Freestyle and shader-based NPR workflows but trades depth for speed and predictability. It’s aimed at animators, illustrators, or look-dev artists seeking quick contour definition rather than layered compositing passes. The tool’s outline creation relies on established methods (Solidify inversion and emission-based materials) rather than proprietary processing. This makes its output easily editable and compatible with standard Blender assets.

Pricing and Availability

The Stylized Outline Generator is available on Superhive Market for $3. At the time of writing, it supports Blender 4.x and 5.0 with Eevee compatibility confirmed by the vendor. As with any production utility, users should test the add-on on non-critical projects before integrating it into live pipelines.
