Isotropix had saved the announcement of the new Clarisse version for FMX 2017. For all those who were unable to be in Stuttgart last week, the recorded live sessions from the developers are available to watch afterwards. We have linked the playlist below. Here we summarise what the new range of features in the 3.5 version has to offer. The update will be available from the end of May.
Clarisse 3.5 new features
If you haven’t used the tool yet, you can read about the pipeline integration proposed by the development team here. The announcements of the new features are focussed on scene layout, look dev, rendering and compositing.
Layout and Scatter
With a new Particle and Property Paint Tool, you can quickly design scenes in Clarisse 3.5 and assign geometries to the particles. Attributes such as scaling, rotation and ID can then be drawn in using the Property Paint Tool. The Scatter Tools have also been enhanced with collision detection, time offset control and probability-based weight distribution.
Look Dev and Rendering
New features for Look Development include a new physical standard material, improved lighting controls, texture operators such as a triplanar projection and improvements to the node view in the material editor. Also new is the integration of Light Path Expression (LPE ), which is based on the Open Shading Language (OSL) for better control of user-defined AOVs.
Compositing
In addition to LPE, the 3.5 version comes with support for Cryptomatte, an open standard for generating masks. Masks including IDs for motion blur, transparency and depth of field can be created automatically.
Further new features
In addition to interface improvements, the engine for referencing files within a project has also been revised. New extensions for groups in Clarisse 3.5 also make it possible to create various rules for procedural templates. More information about all features of the upcoming update can be found here.
FMX 2017 Playlist
Between workshops, screenings, breakdowns, concept art and heated discussions at FMX, developers also presented their tools. In this playlist you will find the presentations by Isotropix on compositing, crowd simulation, set design and city destruction in Clarisse 3.5.
