In nuce: Autodesk and Epic Games have released Unreal Live Link 2.1 for Maya. This is the latest version of the plugins that can be used to link Maya and Unreal Engine. Unreal Live Link 2.1 consists of two plugins – one for Maya and one for Unreal Engine, which are linked together. Data exchange between the two applications is to take place in real time thanks to the plugins. Timecode data is also exchanged between the two applications, which makes it possible to scrub simultaneously between the timelines of the two applications. By the way: A few previous versions of Unreal Live Link were still called Maya Live Link. Unreal Live Link 2.1 works with Maya 2020 and upwards and is supported for Windows and Linux operating systems.
Below are some of the new features that have been included in version 2.1:
- Asset filtering features: Through text input, it is possible to search for specific Unreal Engine assets or sequences.
- Transfer camera properties: This makes it possible, for example, to transfer settings for aperture or focal length from one application to another.
- Live Link settings: These can now be saved as part of a Maya scene file.
Clicked next: Unreal Live Link 2.1 for Maya is available via Autodesk’s App Store or Github . On 16.08.2022 , Digital Production reported on a tutorial video, published on the Maya Learning Channel, which explains how the Live Link plugin works in practice.
