In nuce: Canadian VFX supervisor Taran Singh, also known by his pseudonym Captainsting, has pulled a nice-looking Spider-man out of his Blender pipeline – based on Tobey Maguire’s big-screen iteration of the web-balling superhero. In particular, Taran was inspired by the first film in the Sam Raimi film series, which was released in cinemas in 2002.
A look inside the artist’s workshop: Apart from a knife-edge of motion capturing, which Taran used to master the movement sequences of the world’s only spider with just four limbs, the 3D project was created entirely in Blender. According to Taran, the biggest challenge for him was creating the fabric of the superhero outfit – the special challenge: the grid structure that covers the entire superhero uniform. By the way: Taran holds out the prospect of making his 3D model commercially available in the future.
