Alias|Wavefront announced Maya 4.5 Personal Learning Edition for December 2002. More than 250,000 people had downloaded the first free release since February.

User feedback led to learning-focused changes. The watermark disappeared in wireframe mode, and the software could import several data formats, including files from commercial Maya editions.

The edition included Maya Complete 4.5 features such as new modelling tools, subdivision surfaces, integrated 3D Paint and workflow improvements. A multilingual beginner’s guide, one-hour training DVD and web resource centre supported new users.

Maya is now developed by Autodesk. The release belongs to the Autodesk Maya and training archives.
