Reflecmedia’s Chromaflex system was designed to reduce the time and lighting normally required for chroma keying. The setup used Chromatte, a reflective fabric containing millions of tiny glass beads, with a LiteRing mounted around the camera lens. Blue or green LEDs illuminated the background evenly, allowing keying without a conventional coloured cyc and extensive lighting rig.
The ring was offered in two sizes for common cameras. A controller adjusted its intensity continuously. Reflecmedia claimed the arrangement saved roughly 1 kW of lighting for every two square metres of background.
The combination of Chromaflex, Chromatte and LiteRing aimed to make chroma keying practical for smaller studios and enthusiast teams. Packages at publication were priced as follows:
- Desk Shoot, with 2.5 × 2.5 m curtain, LiteRing, controller and power supply: €1,995.
- Small Studio, with 3 × 4 m curtain: €3,195.
- Studio, with 4 × 5 m curtain: €4,495.
- Chromaflex, with 2.1 × 2.1 m collapsible screen: €1,595.
Individual Chromatte curtains ranged from €1,595 to €4,095. Small and large blue or green LiteRings cost €325 and €395 respectively, the controller €195, and the UK/EU/US power supply €35.
