The Planet documentary channel has aired on Kabel Digital Home, Kabel Deutschland’s digital programme package, since 1 January. In an entirely server-based playout workflow, every programme is transferred to the server in advance and played from it for transmission. This creates a high degree of automation while increasing on-air reliability. The server-based solution is particularly suited to specialist channels distributing fully or largely automated programming in digital or analogue form. Demand for the playout services is strong: Plazamedia has more than doubled the number of television channels it operates from four to nine year on year. The company currently handles playout for DSF, Premiere Sport1, Premiere Sport2, 9Live, Disney Core Channel, Toon Disney, Playhouse Disney, Toon Disney+1 and Planet. Further projects are in preparation.
