Deutsche Welle is replacing its entire editorial system with Dalet products. Following an extensive trial and procurement process, the broadcaster selected systems integrator Thum+Mahr as general contractor. Integration of the television and radio newsroom components began in June 2006. The project was scheduled to create Germany’s first tri-media newsroom for radio, television and online production by the end of 2007, with more than 1,000 workstations.
Deutsche Welle produces television and radio programming in 28 languages at its Berlin operation, DW-TV, and its Bonn operations, DW-RADIO and DW-WORLD.DE. OpenMedia will cover the editorial workflow from planning through transmission, supporting existing production processes as well as new approaches to news creation. It will integrate with broadcast and administration systems and connect to video and audio management.
The installation combines the established OpenMedia newsroom system with the new DaletPlus range for the first time. The software can be configured for audio and video production, online publishing, archives, broadcast and news workflows. The resulting environment is based on one database, a uniform operating system and a consistent user interface. Deutsche Welle’s existing newsroom system will be replaced completely, with new IT infrastructure built on Hewlett-Packard servers and storage components.
