The ProSiebenSat.1 Group has acquired a stake in “MyVideo”. MyVideo is, in the broadcasting group’s portrayal, the largest video community on the German-language Internet. ProSiebenSat.1 owns 30 percent of the company and has the option to take over the company completely at a later date. With MyVideo, the media group now also owns a service for user-generated content that can complement existing formats and web offerings.
“MyVideo is one of the most interesting websites that currently exist on the Internet from our perspective,” explains Guillaume de Posch, chief executive officer of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG: “If you look at the success of ‘YouTube’ in the USA, a video community is an obvious extension of our activities for us as a TV company. In this way, we correspond to new usage habits and offer an
interactive platform for content.”
Like the new pay-TV offerings and the recently launched maxdome video-on-demand portal, MyVideo is another step to strengthen its presence in the digital world, de Posch explains.
According to ProSiebenSat.1, the MyVideo.de video portal is growing dynamically. Per week, the approximately 70,000 videos currently posted on MyVideo are accessed around 12 million times; per day, there are up to two million views. The spectrum ranges from holiday videos and self-shot music clips to self-produced short films. Around 1,800 films are added every day. Daily access figures rose by 560 percent from April 2006 to August 2006. The network records around 27 million page views weekly.
