MFD Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland and Fraunhofer IIS are cooperating on distribution of the text-based Journaline news service. Designed for digital broadcasting, the service presents current text information through a menu structure on mobile receivers. Fraunhofer IIS developed Journaline with vehicle manufacturers as a mobile news service. MFD Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland will begin broadcasting content in the Journaline format at IFA in Berlin on 31 August. MFD will use its DMB transmission network, already operating in 16 metropolitan areas, for mobile television. The aim is to make the news service available in future mobile-TV and DAB digital-radio receivers, turning Journaline into a form of teletext for mobile television.
“We are very pleased to implement this extremely exciting project together with Fraunhofer IIS,” said Henrik Rinnert, managing director of MFD Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland. “Mobile TV is a dynamically growing market that provides promising applications for innovative concepts.”
“Viewers already know the benefits of teletext from analogue television. Journaline now lets users of mobile digital television read news and programme information quickly and easily,” said Alexander Zink, Journaline project manager at Fraunhofer IIS. “It is good to be able to provide this worldwide first over the DMB platform together with MFD.”
