32 prize winners and 96 finalists were delighted with their distinctions at the 9th International Eyes & Ears Awards. From 468 entries, five specialist juries in Zurich, Vienna, London, Strasbourg and Cologne had selected the outstanding productions of the past year in the fields of media design, on-air, off-air, online and cross-promotion as well as brand communication for audiovisual media.
For the eighth time, Eyes & Ears of Europe presented the two Eyes & Ears special prizes. 20th Century Fox received the special prize for “Innovation”. With its cross-media campaign approaches for cinema films, 20th Century Fox combines classic advertising, online and mobile marketing with promotion events. Viral recommendation marketing, polarizing appearances, ambient media, numerous online activities and a party tour through 13 cities earned ‘Borat’ a report on ARD Tagesthemen. For ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, 20th Century Fox even went into the department store and, as part of the ‘Runway Cover Girl Contest’, selected a real cover girl for the dummy issue of the fictional fashion magazine ‘Runway’ from the film. For the launch campaign for ‘The Simpsons – The Movie’, the film marketer relied on a broad fan of diverse online measures. Outstanding here was the ‘Simpsonizer’, with which users could transform their own photo Simpson-like. “More involvement of the target group in the promotion measures is hardly conceivable. With its innovative campaigns, 20th Century Fox turns its films into an experience even before the cinema release”, said the laudators on the occasion of the award presentation.
The special prize for “Effectiveness” went to ProSieben. Following the first season in autumn 2005, the creative team at ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion once again succeeded in staging the world of the StarForce agents in entertaining and surprising spots. “Led by ‘Papa Stromberg’, around twenty spots offer the best agent entertainment in the Bond tradition and plenty of action. The strong image campaign connects the faces of the channel with the core values of the ProSieben brand. 100 percent entertainment – unmistakably ProSieben”, the jurors found.
The Eyes & Ears Excellence Award 2007 went to Robert Wilson. For the tenth time, Eyes & Ears of Europe presented the prize for outstanding and lasting contributions to the design and reflection of audiovisual communication. The American director is known for his groundbreaking audiovisual productions: For more than forty years, he has combined such diverse forms of artistic expression as dance, light, stage design, sculpture and music in his works. In his laudatory speech, Lars Wagner, Channels Director Pay TV Discovery Communications and member of the Board of Eyes & Ears of Europe, focused in particular on the video portraits that Robert Wilson made of Brad Pitt, Winona Ryder and other major actors and artists, among others: “These images are radical because they make use of all the means available today. They spare no effort, they are absolutely “state of the art”, they are as artful as their subjects are natural. But their goal is not the greatest possible movement, but the greatest possible stillness; not the momentary effect, but the lasting experience – for eyes and ears. The video portraits are maximally minimalist; with them, our prize winner reinvented the portrait for the 21st century.”
The International Eyes & Ears Awards 2007 were supported in particular by ProSieben, ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion, Creation Club, ORF, Interone Worldwide, RTL CREATION, Discovery Channel, Red Bee Media, ARTE, Swiss Television, Nokia Siemens Networks, Avid, BLM Bavarian Regulatory Authority for New Media and Medientage München.
