ACCESS and EXPWAY signed a licensing agreement to integrate EXPWAY’s FastESG electronic service guide with the NetFront Browser DTV Profile. ACCESS planned to distribute the resulting NetFront Browser DTV Profile DVB-H Edition to manufacturers of mobile phones and internet-capable devices.
Standards and delivery paths
The combined platform joined ACCESS’s NetFront Browser DTV Profile with EXPWAY’s FastESG system for DVB-H and 3G networks. It supported the DVB-IPDC and OMA-BCAST mobile-television standards.
Operators could distribute content across multiple transport networks, while users accessed broadcast, unicast and local services through a consistent browser interface. The same approach covered unicast video on demand and streaming as well as broadcast audio and video.
Interactive services
The platform also supported interactive functions such as voting, betting and advertising. Packaged multimedia delivery included ContentCast, described as a podcasting system extended to video.
ACCESS chief executive Toru Arakawa said the FastESG integration was intended to improve content distribution, promotion and discovery. EXPWAY chief executive Antoine Weil positioned the partnership as a route to large-scale deployment of mobile television services.
