Verbatim’s new blank BD discs are manufactured by its Japanese parent company Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM) to the highest quality standards in Mizushima, MKM’s Japanese production center. The highly advanced recording layers of Verbatim Blu-ray media are characterized by an especially high performance threshold: “Very high recording quality across the entire disc surface, regardless of variations in drive performance or smudges on the disc surface, makes Verbatim Blu-ray media the first choice for professional applications,” says Torsten Leye, Marketing Manager Optical Verbatim EUMEA.
The Metal-Ablative-Recording-Layer technology (MABL), developed for Verbatim’s first generation of BD-R media, has been further improved to achieve quadruple writing speed. “To ensure even more stable recording, MKM increased the sensitivity of the MABL, achieving a higher recording speed while maintaining outstanding burner compatibility and a very long service life,” says Leye. The printable surface makes the medium easy to label and customize with original designs. The printable area extends from 40 to 118 mm from the hub.
Verbatim’s HardCoat coating on Verbatim BD media has anti-static properties and reliably protects the medium from scratches, fingerprints and dust particles encountered in everyday use. “This protective layer is especially important for Blu-ray media because the data layer lies very close to the disc surface and, unlike conventional DVD media, is not protected by an additional plastic layer,” says Leye. “Thanks to MKM’s proprietary recording-layer and surface technologies and precise stamping and molding equipment during production, Verbatim customers can be sure they are using the best blank BD discs available on the market.”
Verbatim is a member of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) and, as a leading supplier of CD and DVD media, maintains close contacts with the most important manufacturers of optical-storage hardware, supporting them with media samples for extensive product testing. “This ensures the highest possible level of compatibility between users’ hardware and Verbatim media,” says Leye.
